Why do we need innovation?

As a research-based agrochemicals and biotechnology company, innovation is a central element of corporate strategy at Bayer CropScience. Our aim as we research and develop new products and solutions is to generate sustained added value – for our customers and for consumers, as well as for our company and its stakeholders.

For instance, farmers the world over face the challenge to protect their crops from pests and diseases and, at the same time, achieve quality yields in a sustainable, affordable way. Innovation is essential to meet both their present and future needs.

Bayer CropScience, through its global research and development activities, contributes to finding novel solutions in the fields of crop protection, seeds and non-agricultural applications.

One example is the development of innovative products to combat fungal pathogens in cereals and thereby prevent mycotoxins from entering the food chain. However, finding the ideal compound is just one example of how we are pursuing new R&D opportunities. Another is plant biotechnology, which can improve the quality of agricultural products or produce new high-value products in plants. In our labs, for instance, we have engineered potato plants so they yield specific qualities of starch, designed to support different manufacturing processes, such as the production of paper.

Bayer CropScience is setting new standards in our industry, offering a broad range of innovative products, state-of-the-art technologies and highly professional, expert research work. In doing so, our company makes a substantial contribution to improving the quality of human life, in line with the philosophy of the Bayer Group: Science for a Better Life.
