Which kind of schools and classes is the Baylab plants for?
The student lab is for pupils in classes 9-13 in all kinds of schools. The program varies, but here are some of the topics: plant biotechnology, traditional breeding, molecular marker- and RNAI-technology, saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, esterification, agriculture and world population and a lot more …
What does it cost to visit Baylab plants?
The costs for the visit to the student lab and the meal expenses are sponsored by Bayer CropScience. Schools only have to pay for the transfer to the site.
What level of knowledge should the pupils have?
We don’t assume any prior level of knowledge. We don’t want the pupils to feel under pressure to succeed.
Must one class do all of the experiments or can we change the program for a special class?
Normally the class gets divided into 3 groups, one in each lab. In cases where all of the students are studying only chemistry or only biology we make exceptions. Please address your request to us.
What does the teacher do during the day?
Teachers either have the opportunity to be an observer or they participate themselves during the day. They will hand over their role as teacher and responsible person to the tutor in the Baylab plants.
Does the teacher have to accompany the group?
It is obligatory that they accompany the group. He or she will have an opportunity to observe the group and learn about how they do. Their role will change anyway. Inside the student lab, our employees will be lead of the group.
On which days is the Baylab plants open?
The Baylab plants is open every Tuesday and Thursday. It is closed during school holidays.
How do I get to the Baylab plants by public transport?
From Düsseldorf, Langenfeld: suburban railway S6 to Langenfeld Rheinland. From here take Bus no. 790 to the stop “Landwirtschaftszentrum”. From Cologne, Leverkusen: suburban railway S6 or Regional Express train from stop Leverkusen Middle. From here take Bus no. 233 to the stop “Alfred-Nobel-Str.”.
