Asia Fruit Logistica 2011: Showcasing Food Chain Partnerships around Asia

Bayer CropScience kicks off okra food chain partnership in India

Excellent opportunity: Showcasing the food chain partnerships around Asia at the Bayer CropScience stand.
From September 7 – 9, the city of Hong Kong hosted Asia Fruit Logistica 2011 and Asiafruit Congress. Bayer CropScience leveraged this twin occasion to highlight its expertise in partnerships and solutions for sustainable agriculture. This year’s trade show was also an excellent opportunity to present the launch a new food chain partnership with Indian okra exporter Kay Bee.

Every year, Asia Fruit Logistica brings together fruit and vegetable marketers from all over the world, making the event extremely valuable for both visitors and exhibitors. The exhibition & congress provide an excellent platform for showcasing the latest developments in the fruits and vegetables business.

The Bayer CropScience stand at Fruit Logistica presented a wide range of solutions, highlighting the company’s seed-to-harvest expertise in fruits and vegetables:
  • Innovative seed products from Nunhems – the Bayer CropScience vegetable seed business,
  • the complete portfolio of crop protection solutions for vegetables and fruits, and
  • numerous projects with partners from the food industry designed to enable sustainable production of high-quality food.
This comprehensive portfolio of customer-centric solutions based on seeds, crop protection and comprehensive advisory services play an important part in securing harvests, increasing long-term yields, and maintaining the quality of harvested produce.

A special video presentation at the Bayer CropScience booth announced a new okra project in India, involving Bayer CropScience and Kay Bee Export, one of India’s leading fruit and vegetable producers. The joint project was officially launched at a small celebration of the cooperation partners. Roger Tripathi, Bayer’s food-chain manager for Asia Pacific, highlighted the benefits of the partnership: “The cooperation between Kay Bee and Bayer CropScience ensures the development and implementation of seed-to-harvest solutions, increasing yields and improving okra quality in terms of shape, size and color.”

Amit Sharma, Bayer’s food-chain manager for India, highlighted how Bayer had helped Kay Bee Export to develop farmer training programs to raise farmers’ awareness of quality issues: “Integrated pest and disease management and the safe handling of crop protection products are a vital part of the package, as was a passport tool developed by Bayer to document on-farm activities,” he said.

“The results so far have been impressive,” emphasized Kaushal Khakhar, CEO of food chain partner Kay Bee “Significantly higher yields and improvements in quality mean higher net incomes for the farmers and more high-quality okra for Kay Bee Export to sell in our export markets.”

    Food Chain Partnerships

Bayer CropScience developed the food chain partnership business model to help farmers all over the world to produce high-quality produce in a sustainable manner and to successfully network with participating players in the food chain.
